Personal Stuff

My father introduced me to woodworking when I was a kid, but I didn’t get interested in wood turning until 1999 when he gave me his original Sears lathe. While I have never turned anything on it, it did allow me to drill holes in pen blanks and is my buffing station. I consider woodturning a hobby that I truly love and have sold several pens and other items I have created.

I have been a member of the Alamo Woodturners Association since the 2002 and currently serve on the Board of Directors.

I have lived in San Antonio since September 1, 2001 when my wife Cyndy brought me here to take a position with Southwest Research Institute.

Woodturning Interests

I would have to say that the design to fruition process really interests me the most. “How Did They Do That?” Like many wood turners, I want to be able to turn a piece as quickly as possible, but have it look like it is suppose to when it is complete. Better said, with as few design changes as possible. Some of my favorite projects to date have been stacked ring bowls, laminated holiday tree bells, bird house ornaments, and glass domed display cases. .

Shop & Equipment

Like many wood working enthusiasts, I have the usual assortment of shop equipment in my garage. That said, my garage is used to hold our cars as well as my work bench and table saw. Which begs the question…? Where is the wood turning equipment? THE UPSTAIRS BEDROOM! I absolutely have the best wife in the world because it was her idea! Upstairs is an 1100 CFM dust collection system, a tool table, 2 project tables, the Sears lathe, the mini Jet lathe and its bench, and my newest addition (bought by my wife) a 14X42 VS Jet and stand!
